Photo Shoot

I finally got Dagny to take some pictures with me, and despite the cold and rain, we had a lot of fun and got some good shots.  Out of the hundreds of pictures we took, we liked about 50, really liked about 20, and we agreed that at least 2 were kind of awesome.

Sew Crafty

When I was in middle school I got a C in Home Ec.  It was a fair grade considering my mediocre sewing skills and the fact that I set an ironing board on fire.  My teacher helped me understand that sewing might not be my thing and that I should just move on.

The other day I saw a very cool camera strap cover and decided that I had to have one. I went on Etsy to buy it, but when I really looked at it I realized how ridiculously easy it was to make.  If it's that simple, I figured I could make one myself.  This could have ended very badly, but I found a great tutorial, and I am now the proud owner of a handmade camera strap cover.

Ta Da!

It was so easy I made more than one

12 Hour Plays

What do you get when you let teenagers write their own plays?
Angst, angst, and then some more angst.

Dagny got to perform in a play that was produced in a 12 hour span.  The only things done ahead of time were the writing and the casting; all the blocking, tech stuff, memorization, costuming, and rehearsal were done in one day.  There were 4 short plays and they all shared the common theme of angst.  They were dark, a bit disturbing at times, but extremely well done.  The production quality was quite good, so were the costumes and acting. It was amazing to see what they put together in such a short time. Dagny played a psychiatrist with a murderer as a patient.  She got the murderer to confess and then chased after him to try and stop him from committing suicide.  Angsty?  I think so.  Next year I'm hoping they do a comedy.

sadly, the only picture of the night was taken on my camera phone

A Starry Night

In September we saw the Birth of Impressionism exhibit at the de Young Museum, this week we saw the second part of the exhibit, and it completely filled my art-loving heart.  San Francisco is the only city in the world to host both exhibits, and to truly understand either exhibit you needed to see them both.

This exhibit had many paintings that were unfamiliar to me, which was exciting, and some that were so famous you couldn't believe you were actually standing in front of them.  The expression on Dagny's face as she was looking at Van Gogh's Starry Night was unforgettable.

The host is annoying, but I like this video
because it was filmed inside the exhibit.

Picture Perfect

I got a comment on my last post that said people are waiting to see what I'm doing with my new camera. I've been taking pictures, lots of them, but I haven't posted any because what I've been doing is learning about how the camera works, photography techniques, and photo editing. The learning process is fun, but I have a long way to go.

I have been taking pictures of anything, and everything. (except for humans.  I haven't gotten anyone to pose for me yet, I'm working on it)  I take my camera when we go for walks and I've taken innumerable shots of leaves, rocks, and trees.  I've practiced the different camera settings while taking pictures of  things around my house, but mostly I've been taking pictures of the dogs.  The dogs are cute and they're always willing to get their picture taken, unlike my human children.

Blog Blues

I'm glad that updating my blog more frequently wasn't one of my resolutions for the new year. I am not feeling very blog inspired at the moment.  So far, January has been kind of dreary and grey and has left me feeling a little blue.  I think once the sun comes out so will my creativity.  I'll let you know when that happens.
