Banned Books Week

...Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

Here is a list of banned/frequently challenged classics. I am proud to say that a good many of them are on my book shelf.  I think the best thing to do during Banned Books Week is read a banned book and share it with a friend.

  1. Great cause. Sadly, I have only read four on that list. However, The Sun Also Rises is one of my favorites. I think it is time for me to pick up a few on the list that I have been intending to read for a while...

  2. Taylor -I know you like Chuck Palahniuk, I bet you would enjoy Kurt Vonnegut. Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five are both on the banned list, they are two of my favorites.

  4. I read Vonnegut in High School - it's the only "required reading" I enjoyed. My personal favorite is "Sirens of Titan".
